Today’s People Spotlight features Joanna Kennedy Redmond, MBA, PMP, a Disaster Recovery Division manager from our AECOM - Water business line in the U.S.    When Joanna first took a job under a Hurricane Katrina housing program in 2007, she thought it would be temporary. She ended up working there for seven years. To date, Joanna has devoted 16 years of her career to supporting communities impacted by natural disasters. After Hurricane Harvey, she and her AECOM team supported 1,600 families whose homes were damaged during the storm, assisting the State and federal government in implementing programs that helped families repair and return to their homes. “While my initial step into disaster recovery wasn’t intentional, the decision to continue this career path certainly was,” She writes, “It is rewarding to serve communities that have been impacted by disasters — to be a part of their recovery and help them to be better prepared for the next storm event.”    Read more about her work: https://lnkd.in/d6YARHnU   #AECOM #AECOMVoices #PeopleSpotlight

The EPA’s limits on PFAS in drinking water are stringent. In the low parts per trillion, they represent a tremendous public health and environmental victory. To meet them, though, water utilities will need to adapt their treatment approaches — and rapidly.   Our Global PFAS Technical Lead Rosa Gwinn explains the three steps utilities can take to bring their treatment systems up to the new standards.  Read her insights into the latest in PFAS and water treatment: https://lnkd.in/e_pxXMEC #AECOM #PFAS #Water

As awareness and understanding of PFAS grow, our industry-leading PFAS technical teams are working with clients globally to help mitigate the risks associated with these prevalent compounds.   One of our long-standing clients is the US Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), whom we’ve collaborated with extensively both in the U.S. and Europe. Most recently, we’re working with USACE on construction that will start on an AECOM-designed treatment facility at USAG Ansbach in Germany, as the base continues its work to remediate its groundwater.   Our solution entails hydraulic containment using pump and treat (P&T) with ion exchange resin — one of many holistic PFAS solutions we provide, from source identification and mitigation to water treatment and PFAS destruction.   At the press conference to mark the start of the construction, representatives from the Base explained to the media how the solution works — a valuable activity in enabling wider understanding of the solutions as communities globally increasingly want to see action.   Congratulations to our teams for their excellent work on this innovative solution as we continue to address the pressing environmental challenge of PFAS remediation. #AECOM #PFAS #Remediation

Today’s People Spotlight features Harriet Ridler, a coastal engineer from our AECOM - Water business in the United Kingdom. Harriet’s decision to become an engineer was driven by a firsthand encounter with the impacts of natural hazards. In 2014, she witnessed the devastation caused by the collapse of a local coastal wall, which supported the only railway to and from her hometown of Dawlish. It was this event — and the response by engineers to rebuild and reinforce the wall — that inspired her to pursue a career in flood and coastal engineering. One of her favorite projects is the Langstone Flood and Coastal Erosion Risk Management (FCERM) project in the south of the UK. Her work spans not only protecting the village of Langstone against tidal flooding, but also engaging with its community and preserving culturally significant structures in the area.    Read more about her work: https://lnkd.in/eMWjN2Xj   #AECOM #AECOMVoices #PeopleSpotlight #Water #Environment
