About the Role

Auckland’s transport system underpins the success of Auckland, and it impacts on the lives of all Aucklanders. Decisions on the future of Auckland’s transport network are city-shaping, long-lasting and expensive, requiring careful and thorough consideration. We are seeking an outstanding strategic thinker to provide advice on how to ensure the investment into Auckland’s transport system will achieve Auckland Council’s broader city goals such as meeting Auckland’s climate change obligations, improving access for all Aucklanders, ensuring the efficient integration of land use and transport infrastructure, and enabling greater economic prosperity. This is a unique role at Auckland Council and will be its pre-eminent strategic and technical expert on transport issues. You will provide strategic, compelling advice to the Mayor, councillors and the senior executive on a range of matters relating to Auckland’s transport needs.

About You

Your career history may span working for central or local government organisations that undertake national or city-wide strategic transport planning, or you may have been a consultant for such organisations. You will bring significant experience in advising senior decision makers on complex strategy and policy matters, particularly in relation to transport. Building relationships and working collaboratively will be second nature to you. You will have well developed political acumen, be savvy and can communicate complex issues in a simple but persuasive manner. A genuine passion and interest in the future of Auckland’s transport system is crucial to the role.
