About the Role

Atkins has an exciting new opportunity in our Building Design Practice for a Junior Urban Designer / Masterplanner in our London office to work on our national and international projects. You will play a pivotal role producing and assisting in the production of high-quality graphics for the emerging urban strategies and layouts. You will have the opportunity to use the skills that you have developed on our high-profile masterplanning projects across a range of scales for the public and private sector. This opportunity would particularly suit Urban Designers / Masterplanners who are creative, curious and enthusiastic. We are looking for a designer with a ‘can do’ attitude who is passionate about working on a variety of scales and contexts ranging from city-wide urban regenerations, urban extensions to new settlements. Our practice has a strong focus on creativity, innovation and design and values the means by which concepts and proposals are described and represented. With this in mind, please clearly set out your full IT skills and experience, ranging from CAD to GIS, Adobe to 3D or any other technical or graphic approach you employ in your work.

What You're Gonna Do

- Supporting in the production of high-quality urban design and master planning projects; - Prepare graphic-led reports and presentations for clients; - Support in the preparation of technical bids for master planning and urban design projects; - Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary design teams, client and other consultants; - Developing and maintaining relationships with colleagues across the teams and business; - Other duties associated with the main role and responsibilities will be requested from time to time.

About You

- Master’s degree in urban design or comparable qualification; - 2-3 years’ demonstrable experience as urban designer / masterplanner; - Ideation and delivery focused with good time management skills; - A strong portfolio with excellent graphic design skills. Able to create high quality 2D and 3D drawings, illustrations and graphics with AUTOCAD, Sketchup, Enscape and Adobe Creative Suite; - Strong communication skills, both written and spoken; The following will be advantageous: - Previous involvement in Garden village related masterplanning projects; - Have a well-developed understanding of the UK Planning System and experience in supporting development framework, outline applications, etc; - GIS mapping skills.
