About the Role

This appointment is for a permanent lectureship to deliver and develop our teaching and research in the area of Urban Design within the Department of Planning and Environmental Management in the School of Environment, Education and Development. We welcome applications from individuals committed to high quality teaching and research in urban design. The appointee would be expected to teach at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels, particularly contributing to existing course units on our MSc Urban Design and International Planning programme, as well as supervising relevant undergraduate dissertations and master’s design dissertations. The appointee would also play an active role in the Manchester Urban Design LAB [MUD-Lab] -www.manchester.ac.uk/mudlab - contributing to the broad range of urban design related activities and outputs. S/he will also be expected to undertake a range of administrative and pastoral duties. Suitable candidates should have a strong background in teaching urban design in a studio environment; we particularly welcome interest from those with professional practice experience in urban design or related technical design disciplines. Candidates should be able to evidence their ability to deliver design studios; teach, supervise, and critique [crits] applied urban design projects through analysis, frameworks, and design development; utilize, and teach, technical design skills/software including technical drawing, hand-sketching, 3D physical model-making, Adobe Creative Suite [in particular illustrator and InDesign], AutoCAD, and Sketch-Up; and work effectively as part of a established teaching team to design and deliver content and projects.
