About the Role

- Position Title: Research Communications Coordinator - Date Opened: September 9, 2022 - Date Closing: October 21, 2022 (applications reviewed on a rolling basis) - Position Details: Full-time salaried position with benefits - Salary range depending on qualifications: $60,000 – 70,000; - Los Angeles Office or Remote (must be located in California). Location outside the LA region will require travel to the LA office regularly. Hybrid remote/in-office work model General Overview: The Shared-Use Mobility Center (SUMC) is a non-profit public interest organization promoting multi-modal transportation systems that work for all. Through pilot projects, research, capacity-building, and advocacy, SUMC helps communities realize a vision of an equitable and sustainable mobility future. SUMC is looking for a Research Communications Coordinator to join the Los Angeles Office. SUMC is expanding to serve a growing set of programs that include the Clean Mobility Options Voucher Pilot Program; City of Fresno Clean Shared Mobility Network; and the Federal Transit Administration Mobility Innovation Collaborative. These capacity-building programs disseminate knowledge and resources throughout a rapidly-growing mobility ecosystem of public agencies, community-based organizations, Native American tribes, and private sector mobility providers. Position Overview: The Research Communications Coordinator will work closely with SUMC’s California and Chicago-based research and communications teams to support the organization’s growing dissemination of information and research around capacity-building, technical assistance, and evaluation programs. This position presents a rare opportunity to work directly with disadvantaged communities and public and private sector organizations to create and curate content through project narratives, case studies, data visualization, dashboards and mapping interfaces, blogs, vlogs, and other creative outlets. The position is ideal for a “storyteller” who possesses strategic communication abilities, excellent writing and graphic design skills, and the ability to distill research and analysis findings into digestible content for the general public and public officials.

What You're Gonna Do

Research Communications Coordinator Duties May Include: - Interpret and distill existing research into engaging visualizations or summaries to support the communication of shared mobility project outcomes and analysis to diverse audiences - Create new written materials that are visually appealing based on shared-mobility data analysis and measurement of equity-based program impacts - Develop project narratives and stories regarding programmatic and project-level activities - Do site visits of mobility equity pilot projects and document how services are being used by communities through various creative media - Contribute to other communications efforts such as blog posts, newsletters, and social media feeds - Conduct research and collect information about mobility projects from around the country for inclusion in SUMC’s Learning Center - Support team members in editing and improving lay-out of external deliverables - Facilitate relationships between SUMC management and potential partners, and maintain account and contact information in SUMC databases - Represent SUMC at meetings and conferences

About You

Required Qualifications: - Passion for transportation equity and shared mobility - Bachelor’s degree in a related field such as communications, urban planning, graphic design, or journalism AND at least four years of experience in related positions OR Master’s degree in a related field such as communications, urban planning, graphic design, or journalism AND at least two years of experience in related positions - Experience and/or course work in the following areas and proficiency in associated software programs: o Data visualization o Digital storytelling o Case study and narrative development o Data dashboards and infographics o Graphic design - Excellent writing skills and an ability to synthesize analysis findings with minimal editorial oversight - Experience communicating complex processes and findings to groups of different backgrounds through written or visual materials - Ability to engage individuals representing different cultures and backgrounds with ease, adapting language and style to the context both in-person and virtually - Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with team members, including colleagues in a remote location - Self-starter with the ability to work independently to identify needs and carry out next steps with minimal guidance Preferred Qualifications: - Experience with video creation and editing - Familiarity or experience with racial and social justice work and strategies - Knowledge of transportation sector practices, challenges, and trends in multi-modal transportation and shared mobility - Spanish-language competency and the ability to translate materials effectively into Spanish - Experience with story mapping or other place-based storytelling techniques
