The new Connected Places Catapult accelerates smarter living and travelling in and between the places of tomorrow. We focus on growing businesses with innovations in mobility services and the built environment that enable new levels of physical, digital and social connectedness. The Connected Places Catapult operates at the intersection between public and private sectors and between local government and transport authorities. We convene the disparate parts of the market to help innovators navigate the complexity of doing business, creating new commercial opportunities and improving productivity, socio-economic and environmental benefits for places.

About the Role

You will provide deep understanding of the intricacies of how cities work today – existing processes, tools, policies, governance and culture – and a vision of how they will change in the future.

What You're Gonna Do

- Research and stay abreast of the legislative, academic and commercial developments in the planning and built environment industry in the UK and abroad. - Work with the team to develop concepts and help prototype tools and innovations that will disrupt the wider industry. - Work with our standards team to identify the use cases where greater standardisation can create and grow UK businesses. - Work with our events and communications team to develop and manage our internal and external communications, including writing blogs, articles and developing content for presentations. - Work with our international team to identify similarities and differences between the UK planning system and our target international countries. - Work with our SME team to help identify partners, support new businesses and help shape projects that will impact the built environment and planning industry. - Manage the programme, agenda and content for our Future of Planning Sounding Board. - You may be required to undertake any other reasonable duties to support the Catapult in achieving its strategic outcomes and ensure effective business operations.

About You

- Qualifications in either town planning, architecture, urban design, architecture, quantity surveying, regeneration, local government policy, smart cities or similar. - Professional experience in the planning or built environment industry - In-depth knowledge of one of either; local plan monitoring, infrastructure planning, development viability, housing capacity, Environmental Impact Assessments, Transport Impact Assessments’ planning enforcement or similar - The ability to think critically and creatively to help identify and deliver projects that will disrupt the status quo - The ability to communicate effectively with project partners, industry leaders and external stakeholders. It will also be helpful if you have: - An understanding of future trends and technologies that are changing cities - An overview of the current technological tools being used in urban planning.

Salary

£30000 - £37000
