About the Role

The Director of Research will produce research; undertake data analysis; create GIS maps; and coordinate programming for our annual Vision Zero Cities Conference. This position includes compilation and organization of datasets, analyzing raw data, researching and documenting relevant statistics and policies, and producing reports that support advocacy campaigns. The Director of Research will help synthesize this information into accessible reports, memos, testimony and information, and will also take the lead in organizing programming for TA's annual Vision Zero Cities Conference.

What You're Gonna Do

Major Areas Of Responsibility: - Undertake research of key policy issues and advance TA’s research agenda - Synthesize information for use in TA’s reports and written materials - Organize and update TA’s databases and information storage - Produce materials that help support campaigns - Maintain online legislative agenda - Organize Vision Zero Cities Conference programming - Coordinate TA speaker series Specific Responsibilities Of The Job: - Undertake research of key policy issues and advance TA’s research agenda - Coordinate with TA’s staff to refine research questions in relation to campaigns and legislative priorities - This includes documenting best practices/case studies, crash statistics, existing policies and proposed legislation - Identify opportunities and make proposals for longer-term research projects - Respond to day-to-day research requests - Search online and subscription services to find existing research - Synthesize information for use in TA's reports and written language - Distill collected information into concise, accessible language - Write findings into memos for staff that can be used for press releases, testimony and reports - Organize and update TA's databases and information storage - Develop standard documentation system for research - Store and update research and findings in TA's research hub database - Maintain and keep updated online legislative agenda - Create and maintain easily accessible go-to fact page for TA staff with most commonly needed and most profound facts - Track and include citations of all research sources; encourage staff to utilize citations in standardized format - Produce maps in GIS that help support campaigns - Work with TA staff to identify long-term mapping needs - Adhere to visual standard of map creation, focusing on quality, accuracy and cohesion with TA brand - Organize TA's storage of GIS files so it is easily utilized by those making maps and those seeking to find maps for campaign work - Identify new longer-term mapping projects that would benefit TA's policy agenda and campaigns - Analyze data gathered firsthand from existing toolkits - Work with Borough Organizers to facilitate use of toolkits (speeding, traffic monitoring, etc.) - Analyze collected data; synthesize findings for campaign work, reports, memos and the press - Organize Vision Zero Cities Conference Programming - Work with Senior Team to conceive of overarching themes and specific panel themes for TA's yearly Vision Zero Cities Conference - Book and coordinate speakers to fill the panels

- Strong research and writing skills - Ability to synthesize information into accessible written documents, memos and research papers - Ability to develop and own research projects, and to oversee contractors and research partners - Strong organizational capabilities and an ability to maintain databases - Ability to work in fast-paced environments and on deadline
