About Us

Hi, we’re Possible - we bring people together to create bold, beautiful solutions in response to the climate crisis. Whether that’s connecting the world’s first solar railway, mining renewable heat from underneath London’s parks, leading calls for a televised climate debate or launching a ground-breaking employer scheme to incentivise clean holiday travel - we’re always thinking of new ways to cut carbon that involve and benefit the public.

About the Role

Are you someone with a passion for tackling climate change in a way that gets everyone involved? Are you a creative thinker with a positive, practical attitude able to turn ideas into reality? Do you get fired up by working with communities to breathe life into innovative climate solutions that improve lives today? Does solving difficult problems float your boat? If so, we should talk. The world’s recent social and political awakening to the climate crisis has been overtaken by the much more immediate crisis of the pandemic, but in the background the climate emergency continues to demand urgent action. In this turbulent and challenging time, Possible’s work on inspiring climate solutions that everyone can contribute to is needed more than ever. Transport is a key area where the UK has veered a long way off track, with carbon emissions actually rising in recent years instead of falling. But with travel patterns turned on their heads by lockdown, new futures are now becoming visible where the car is no longer king. Possible have secured funding for a major new campaign to reduce private car dominance in cities, showing how achieving the big reductions in motor traffic needed to meet climate change targets will also dramatically improve health outcomes and quality of life for people living in cities. The ‘new normal’ post-covid cannot be one where people shun public transport for private cars, or our climate goals will be impossible to meet. We need a senior campaign manager to lead the team delivering this landmark programme to kickstart the process of making private cars obsolete in our cities - accelerating the move to a zero carbon Britain built by and for everyone. We need an experienced leader who knows how to support local community changemakers as well as working with city authorities and local political leaders, leveraging bottom-up grassroots activism to drive city-wide transformation. Our ideal candidate will have a proven track record in campaigning and experience of successfully leading a team, including project management oversight and multiple line management responsibilities. You’ll be a senior member of the campaigns team, working closely with and reporting to the directors, with responsibility for delivering Possible’s Car Free Cities projects for a minimum two year period starting in July 2020. You will be based in Possible’s London office in Camden Town (pandemic permitting), on either a full time or 0.9FTE basis, depending on preference. With the directors’ support, you will be managing annual budgets of hundreds of thousands of pounds and a team of up to six staff, some working remotely from other cities, alongside key relationships with academic partners and overseas consortium members in Paris and New York. You’ll work collaboratively with the communications team to spread our key messages far and wide, and leverage the greatest impact possible in our target communities and beyond. You’ll also work closely with the rest of Possible’s senior management team to cultivate and maintain a positive and supportive working culture amongst the whole workforce as well as within your own team. You’ll also work across the campaigns, fundraising and comms teams to develop the most effective mobilisations techniques, building capacity in our supporters to escalate action and bring their communities with them. Working within strategy and project plans that have been collaboratively developed, you’ll be free to put forward your own ideas for campaign activities, particularly in response to changing events. You’ll be adaptable to overseeing delivery of different tactics based on need, from online petitions to research and report publication, lobbying of city administrations and politicians, grassroots community organising, pioneering innovation and publicity grabbing interventions. As a key member of the Possible family you’ll be part of a small, passionate, nimble, unique and positive organisation that cares about its people, its projects and, ultimately, the planet.
