Radbahn describes the vision of an almost 9km cycle track beneath and along the railway Highline of Berlin’s underground line U1. This way cyclists can not only travel along the East-West axis of the city in a fast, comfortable and convenient way but experience the city from an entirely different angle; at all times and seasons thanks to the roof above their head. Yet, Radbahn is more than a piece of infrastructure and rather represents a so-called placemaking project in the public realm of the city. It describes the art and necessity of forming a place simultaneously as a cultural, social, economic, and aesthetic fabric that attracts and inspires people continuously and anew. We want people to engage with our project and spread the word. For this reason, we are going to realize a prototype of the concept and invite everyone to come, visit and experience it to put community effort at the forefront of realizing sustainable cities.
