Last April 25, the founding prinicple of the firm, DnA_ Design and Architecture, Xu Tiantian imparted the inaugural lecture of the exhibition Stone Voids at arc en rêve centre d'architecture in Bordeaux, France. Showing the conversion of a series of quarries in the Chinese city of Taizhou, this project aims to breathe new life into the enormous void left by the quarries by infusing it with a multiplicity of public activities. Repurposing some 20,000 m2 of space will be gradually returned to the community and will contribute to repairing the ecosystem there. On May 7, the first chapter of Groundwork, a film and exhibition series exploring the field research of contemporary architects will take place at the Canadian Centre for Architecture in Montreal. The series will begin with a talk by Xu Tiantian (DnA, Design and Architecture) at 6 pm on May 7th. Xu Tiantian will speak of her ongoing involvement in rural revitalization processes in China and will place special emphasis on her work at Meizhou Island off the coast of China where she is creating a set of interventions as “architectural acupuncture” to mediate between pressures of heritage and tourism with marine ecology.
