This bright and beautiful Peckham property belongs to Kate, who is one phase down of her Resi reno journey. In 2023, she completed a ground floor side infill to create a lighter and more spacious kitchen dining area, and we have recently commenced phase two, an extension to her loft. The decision to buy this property was fuelled by Kate's desire to downsize and live mortgage-free. Having been subjected to a challenging renovation journey marred by builder-related stress in her previous home, she decided to take a different approach this time around. Kate selected Resi as her trusted partner for her project, opting for a team that could not only design her vision, but also help to connect her to a trusted builder in order to get it built. Kate's project is not just about upgrading her property, but about creating a home that aligns with her lifestyle and interests. Before diving into renovations, Kate lived in the house for a while, observing the little things like how the light tracks, and getting to know its nooks and quirks. "Living in the house first was essential, but I definitely put up with a hovel for a little while!" The ground floor was trapped in the 60s with a dark middle room, a separate galley kitchen and a grim lean-to bathroom with a corrugated asbestos roof. The vision was to get rid of this series of small, dark rooms to create a lighter, open space that lended itself to her love for cooking and entertaining guests. The bathroom to the rear of the property was removed completely, giving the space where it stood back to the garden. We removed the walls separating the dining room from the kitchen and extended into the dead space to the side of the house. This created the feeling of a larger, open plan and multi-functional kitchen dining area, with ample room for relaxation. We added lots of glazing to the rear of the property, which not only floods the space with natural light but also allows Kate to look out and enjoy the garden in all weathers. What do you think?? Our Head of Architecture believes we should rebrand retrofit, do you agree?
🤯 Everybody should know this….does the word ‘Retrofit’ need a rebrand? 🤯 Why do I think it does? In April we asked Resi's customers if they would like ‘Free Retrofit Advice’ - the reaction was look warm. 📉 We quickly shifted the question to would they like ‘Free advice on how to save money on their bills and feel comfortable in their homes’? Almost all said yes. 📈 Then I asked my parents, grandparents and in-laws what they thought retrofit meant - what I got back were answers much closer to re-decoration than decarbonisation? I asked myself - Is the word ‘Retrofit’ hindering progress in the race to net zero? (which we are currently losing) My difficulty with the word retrofit, is that it’s backwards looking, its not sexy, it’s not inspiring and it’s not a vote winner (sadly this matters) Don’t get me wrong, I know that the success of retrofitting is more than just the word. We need to ensure it actually works by making people feel more comfortable in their homes and it must be affordable by lowering bills with manageable upfront costs. But maybe a rebrand would help get more heat pumps into homes and solar panels onto roofs. What do I think it should be? 👇 FutureFit 🌍 ☝ Forward looking and fresh - with some alliteration thrown in. Watford Borough Council has become an unexpected hero in the fight against climate change. Their recent initiative offers free home retrofit advice to all residents. Money is often the biggest barrier to sustainable living. By removing the cost of advice, Watford Council is paving the way for a greener future. Their approach mirrors our own at Resi. Resi is on the Telly! Spot our TV on ITV - huge congratulations to the team for pulling this together, we hope you love it!
You can’t make a punchy television commercial for £2k. You can make three. Our latest TV ad is now airing on ITV1 and it’s been one helluva exercise in stretching a lean budget to its absolute breaking point. To make them not look like a pile of trash involved a not inconsiderable amount of value engineering, including: • Self scripted, set in a location we owned, filmed and produced with our own in-house team, and acted by myself. Edited in house. • Puppet as a distinctive brand asset to lend increased brand recall • Skew to surrealism and humour a.) because of the puppet, and b.) so the viewer is more forgiving of the production quality • No audio or dialogue to avoid having to deal with / pay for it with a tiny 3 person crew. • No VO to avoid additional recording/licensing costs • A song with vocal to add catchiness to the ad / get people singing it in their head. The lyrics had to be in public domain so no copyright holders to worry about. Super proud of the team for this Deborah Loke, Peter F. – I don’t think I’ve heard of a brand like ours shooting their own TV commercial before, let alone on that budget. And the funny thing is, this isn’t the weirdest of the commercials – there’s two more that’ll be airing soon. Git along lil doggies.
