We are proud to present our Concept Design for a youth hostel in Lochen, a flagship project for sustainable, circular hostel renovations for the DJH Landesverband Baden-Württemberg, as part of the CEWI-Cooperation. The mission for DJH Lochen is to be a flagship project for circularity, sustainability and sufficiency. Following the didactic focus of DJH Baden-Württemberg, the hostel should offer its guests an educational experience for sustainable awareness. These themes are also represented in the architectural concept. With the theme of sufficiency in mind, we developed a summer house for the peak season, by transforming the old garage. This summer house provides guest rooms in the warm months, making a low-tech building without heating or cooling possible. Other applied materials are recycled rubber, concrete and wood. Together with Deltares our team has developed a Masterplan Concept for Enhanced Flood Risk Management of the Buna River delta in Shkodra, Albania. The Buna Delta boasts diverse ecosystems, however, it faces periodic flooding. We focused on nature-based solutions to strengthen resilience to flooding such as the organic development of a green river that connects the Buna and Drinasa rivers, inclusion of storage areas and buffer zones along the waterfront and the development of sustainable tourism and land management. By implementing these strategies, the Buna Delta can thrive as a resilient and vibrant ecosystem, providing both environmental and economic benefits for the region. Our sponge city park has become a reality! The 42-hectare "city's living room," characterized by lush greenery and blue spaces, comprises a unified series of five connected parks. This cohesive #parkland is integral to the masterplan of the Airport International Town in Hefei, China. The design combines the critical need for flood protection and stormwater management with a vibrant design of a park for people, flora, and fauna. The complexity of the task required a transdisciplinary and international team with experts in the fields of landscape design, urban design, botanical expertise, hydrology, canal and sewage systems, ecologists and water decontamination and restauration engineers. #CITYFÖRSTER was part of this joint venture “Wasser Hannover” and responsible for the landscape architecture. We are thrilled to announce that our research Carbon-Based Urbanism is officially starting! Together with PosadMaxwan strategy x design and City of Rotterdam, we are investigating carbon emissions on an urban level. A broader perspective on carbon emissions is urgently needed: instead of focussing on (embodied) carbon of buildings, we create a bigger picture to also include the urban fabric and lifestyle emissions of residents. In the project we’ll dive into the relations between urban typology and emissions from buildings, public space & infrastructure, and lifestyle. Other partners contributing to this project are Faculty of Architecture and the Built Environment, TU Delft, PBL Planbureau voor de Leefomgeving , Dutch Green Building Council, Synchroon and ERA Contour B.V. We are happy to announce that CITYFÖRSTER received an honorable mention for our participation in the architectural transformation competition by KoWo - Kommunale Wohnungsgesellschaft mbH in Erfurt, Germany. Together with GREENBOX Landschaftsarchitekten and Drewes + Speth, we transformed two Plattenbau buildings into eco-friendly havens that redefine urban living. While reimagining the 20th century residential blocks we created a prototype blueprint for sustainable urban development that is replicable across neighborhoods and elevates the urban fabric to a higher level. Moreover, we used a modular grid system to enhance form and function, mixed with diverse and meaningful public spaces throughout the building. As for materials, we choose wood, natural fiber insulation, and plant charcoal to offset carbon emissions, while recycled concrete ensures safety and durability. The green facades cool the air and provide homes for local wildlife. Rainwater is stored for droughts and used to nourish the greenery. Today marks the start of a new project and collaboration: together with BLOC bv we are developing the Centrumvisie for Gemeente Papendrecht! A village in the Drechtsteden, Papendrecht has unique qualities to strengthen its position in the region while maintaining its local character. With an integral approach and a strong participation process, we interlink urban factors such as economy, mobility and leisure, to strengthen Papendrecht's position on all scales. The center will become the beating heart of sustainable and strategic urban development, strengthening its connections with the Drechtsteden, het Groene Hart, Kinderdijk and the maritime industry. WESTSTADT navigieren: Wir freuen uns sehr über die Beauftragung für die Entwicklungsplanung Weststadt in #Köln! Zusammen mit unseren langjährigen Team-Partnern von Urban Catalyst GmbH, SHP Ingenieure und Buro Happold werden wir in den kommenden Jahren die Entwicklung dieses - durch Brüche und Dynamik geprägten - Ortes navigieren. Die Kölner Weststadt befindet sich in einem anhaltenden Transformationsprozess und bietet Entwicklungspotenziale, die man in dieser innerstädtischen Lage nicht vermuten würde. Die Konversion des Max-Becker-Areals durch die PANDION AG zusammen mit CITYFÖRSTER ist nur eines von vielen maßgeblichen Projekten im Gebiet. In den nächsten zweieinhalb Jahren werden wir in enger Zusammenarbeit mit der Stadt Köln herauszufinden, wie wir diesen Stadtteil zukunftsfähig gestalten können. Dabei gilt, das Entstehen von Neuem zu zulassen und gleichzeitig die Qualitäten des Vorhandenen zu erhalten und zu stärken. Navigating WESTSTADT: We are very happy to have been commissioned with the development planning for the Weststadt in Cologne! Together with our long-standing team partners from Urban Catalyst GmbH , SHP Ingenieure and Buro Happold, we will navigate the development of this location - characterized by fractures and dynamics - in the upcoming years. Cologne's Weststadt district is undergoing an ongoing transformation process and offers development potential that you would not expect in this inner-city location. The conversion of the Max Becker site by PANDION AG together with CITYFÖRSTER is just one of many major projects in the area. Over the next two and a half years, we will be working closely with the municipality of Cologne to find out how we can make this district future-proof. The goal is to allow the development of something new while at the same time preserving and strengthening the qualities of what already exists. In addition to integrated urban planning and strategic spatial development, the topics of mobility, building with existing, the circular city and the implementation of the sponge city will play a major role - a huge task that we are very much looking forward to!
