About us
Local Projects is an exhibition and media design firm for museums and public spaces. While innovation drives much of today’s design, we’re interested in creating projects that endure. We’re reinventing public space through media. We focus on engaging audiences through emotion and technology, developing new ways for people to interact with art, cities and one another. We gather stories through collaborative storytelling projects, and between Storycorps, the 9/11 Memorial Museum and Change By Us, we have brought forth over 100,000 individuals’ stories and memories, sharing them with the world and touching millions of lives. Local Projects has won top prize for every major design award including the National Design Award for Interaction Design, Fast Company Masters of Design, Webby Gold, Muse Gold and AIGA Gold.

こんにちは to Takram New York and SHOHEI MIYAJIMA of Dashi Okume for hosting our Strategy Director Kate Watson-Cole and our client Jocelyn Heyward, Senior Marketing Manager at Dassai Blue, for a night of Transcultural Tastemaking. We shared some of the strategy and ideas behind our storytelling spaces for the new Dassai Blue Sake Brewery in Hyde Park, NY, learned from our fellow panelists who are bringing Japanese green tea and dashi packets to the American market, and shared perspectives on evolving and interpreting Japanese food and beverage culture for US audiences. Look out for more news on this partnership this year!

A recent and timely article in the New York Times - Children and Museums: You Can’t Start Early Enough https://lnkd.in/eFfbv4vd - highlights how museums are prioritizing the next generation of museum goers as our work with The Columbus Museum is set to open to the public this weekend. We've been working with CoMu since 2020 to design a one of a kind family gallery that uses the museum's art and history collection to engage children and caregivers in activities that build creative thinking, problem solving, and curiosity with an emphasis on placemaking. I am so proud of this work from our team at Local Projects and can't wait to share more of it soon! Here is a sneak peak inside the gallery.

Last weekend, we were proud to join The Columbus Museum's ribbon cutting on its first major renovation since 1989! It’s been a rewarding experience partnering with Perkins&Will to realize the Museum’s vision. The renovated Museum connects its art and history collections in inventive ways, and creates a welcoming place for people to come together and collectively build the future of the community. The renovation includes a completely rethought entry experience, including a series of three introductory experiences that invite and orient visitors to the rest of the newly renovated museum. The jewel of our work culminates inside a 2,000-square-foot children’s gallery whose rich, colorful design is a reflection of the Chattahoochee river valley. Here are a few snaps of the new design, including an inviting new entry, a reimagined orientation experience, new exhibit galleries, and a few very happy teammates. . . . #comu #allthethings #reopening #museum #art #history

We're excited to share more about Amelia and team's labor of love for the past four years, and the way it deeply considers children and their families as a core audience.
