AzuKo is an architecture charity. We dream of a just world, in which every person enjoys the right to dignified living conditions.
We design with disadvantaged communities and empower them to create the world they dream of. From housing, sanitation and infrastructure to play and public space, our projects address urgent needs. Our efforts are focused in the UK, Bangladesh and China.
736 million people are living in extreme poverty today, alongside growing inequality in all parts of the world. We believe good design improves lives and should be accessible to all. We use participatory methods to provide insights into current living conditions, offer visions for the future and support local communities better their own environments. We design collaboratively with these communities to develop spaces, systems and services in a process that is empowering.
Examples of this include involving residents at risk of eviction in the process to improve services provided by their landlord, designing with slum residents to co-create housing, sanitation and infrastructure within their community, and connecting those with type 2 diabetes to health professionals to reimagine prediabetes care.
